I'll never understand
I thought this story was great, other than the fact that nobody else would help. That part I think is terrible. I've heard other stories of crowds of people not helping a victim in an attack. Where is the intestinal fortitude in this "age of the wimp"? I'm disgusted at peoples unwillingness to physically get involved when somebody is in need of help. Is their no real men left in this world? Yes men, I'm sorry, but if your not willing to help a weaker person in danger and in real need of physical help, your not a real man. I read about a psychological experiment that dealt with the same question. They set up a scenario where someone needed help but was alone in a place where no help would likely come. A stranger would help that person when coming onto the scene.
ReplyDeleteIn the second version of the experiment, a person needed help but was in a busier area where many people where around. That person received help much less often.
The theory derived from that is that people help when they see an obvious need, but if others are around, they figure someone else can help. They are off the hook, even when it is evident that no one else is doing anything to help.
What I got from that is that people get stupid in a group.
Personally, having those people see the guy punch the lady and then watch the fight is pathetic. I freely admit to not being a macho guy, but I can't imagine not helping.
Our society has been feminized. Men no longer have a role in society in the way they used to, are told not to fight, and sit quietly. Men and women are not seen as equals, but men are seen as less intelligent, insecure, incapable women. The difference in gender is not seen as a genetic and spiritual difference, but almost as a handicap for men. So instead of men helping, they watch like idiots, waiting for someone else to do something.
