Human Nature
I have been a member of our local VFD for a # of years now. I have observed the changes that have been taking place here in our "out of the way" community. There has been a migration of people from out of the area moving in. People from larger areas that have some money. It is very perplexing to me as to why people move to a small area and then try to make it into the area they came from. People from the big city move to the rural area to get away from it all. Then they proceed to do there best to change the nice, small community into exactly what they came from. My area (yes, I migrated too, but I prefer to keep the area the way it was) has for many years been a little bit of a step back in time. Many people here don't have power and in many areas it isn't even available. The roads have only been paved in the last 20 years. Electricity was brought to the main area 50 years ago. Beautiful place. People are individuals here and keep to themselves. I get along with all my neighbors (although it took a while to get to know them). You can walk down the road with a rifle and nobody thinks anything of it. In fact, they will stop and chat or offer a ride. Anyhow, I was just elected to the board of the local VFD and part of my job means I must make recommendations on new subdivisions and houses being built. All the big city requirements are now being required here, emergency equipment access, road widths, signs, etc. No more will places like my house be able to be built. There is no way a fire truck is getting to my place and that is fine by me. I provide my own fire service. If the forest service or law enforcement tells me I have to evacuate because of fires, floods, etc., I am not moving. Why can't we as people take care of ourselves anymore? I don't need or want the government keeping me safe from myself. There is and has been a trend to stupify the American citizen. There is a whole group of hoplophobes that can't even stand the thought that they might have to defend themselves. What ever happened to people with backbone? Now, if you disagree with the current government administration, Homeland Security says you should be watched for potential "right wing extremism" violence. It is time to wake up Americans! It is time to wake up Christians! If your a practicing Christian and you voted for this administration, I hope your repenting! If you chose some supposed money gain (which will not happen) over principals and morals, I hope your rethinking your decisions! So far, this administration has killed more innocent children, put us in the greatest debt we have ever been in, and threatens to take away more rights. You will soon be criminals if things continue. Obama says we are not a Christian nation, that is like slapping God in the face and saying we reject you! Dangerous stuff. Enough said.

we need to pray for our president. we are living in a very sad time in history. rejecting God means we might as well ask to go back into the dark ages because that is the harvest we as a country reap.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the issue of government requirements and individual initiative. In many areas government has made laws that really do take away our choice and our freedom. Usually it can be seen as well-intentioned and for safety's sake (like seatbelt laws), but it's just another example of the government telling us what we can and cannot do, and intruding into so many little areas of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI'm not anti-government. I have respect for those in authority, but enjoy my constitutional right to voice my opinion when I differ, such as regards abortion and the economy, to name a few.
By the way, since the laws passed requiring seatbelts to be worn, there have been more serious injuries per the same amount of car accidents. Why? Because people think they're "safe" since they're wearing their seatbelt, so they drive faster. And then the accidents they get into are much worse.
I still wear my seatbelt.
