Open Mouth, Insert Foot

Ok, I couldn't help it. Because our President is so good at it, here is my daughter doing her best impression of him. In the 3rd sentence of his inaugural speech, or fearless leader said that forty four Americans have taken this oath. Can anybody tell me why this is not true? Maybe our President should have studied his history a little better as he has made a number of these plunders. Answer coming soon in the comments section.

  1. I am guessing you are referring to the fact that Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the US.
That would mean Obama would be the 43rd person to take the oath.

  2. Hmm. Well, on the White House website, there's a slideshow of all the presidents, and yes, Cleveland is 22 and 24. So I guess you are technically correct, but they do count him twice, so that's probably why he made the slight error in speech. Are you going to keep a log of all the mistakes he has made? I'm sure he's going to make some more. I hope they are all along these lines and not something bigger!

  3. Yes, it is correct that Grover Cleveland served two UNCONSECUTIVE terms thus counting him has two presidents. This would make 44 administrations but NOT 44 presidents. Don't they teach this stuff in school anymore? I sure remember being taught American History. A president should know this stuff along with how many states he has campaigned in. Maybe his speech writer needs fired.
